If you’re remodeling or building a home in Durango or Pagosa Springs, you probably have some countertop decisions to make.  And, given the decades-long popularity of granite, you may be wondering: will granite eventually go out of style?  Will it make your home look dated at some point?  Will it cause your place to lose value?

The answer is no, no, and no!  Here’s the good news from an expert.

While color preferences and edge finishes may go in and out of favor, granite will never go out of style, according to Millie Winder of Rock Solid Custom Granite, an HBASC member company.  “Natural materials are always in fashion for home interiors,” she says.  “It’s a timeless choice, just like wood, other kinds of stone, and plant materials.  People love to bring the outdoors in.”

Not only is each piece unique, giving you the chance to personalize your look, granite is also exceptionally durable.  “With expert installation and minimal care, granite countertops will last a lifetime,” Millie notes.

If you’re concerned about your kitchen or bath feeling tired down the road, it’s not likely that granite will be the culprit.  A fresh coat of paint on the walls, new cabinet doors, new hardware and other tweaks can freshen rooms up at minimal cost.

For Southwest Colorado mountain homes, granite is a natural choice.  And it’s a good investment too.
